FAQ

Garage door questions, answered

Everything Gold Coast customers ask us most, in one place.

What areas of the Gold Coast do you service?

We cover the whole Gold Coast from Pimpama in the north to Coolangatta in the south, and west into Nerang, Mudgeeraba and Worongary. Our head office is in Molendinar, right in the middle.

Do you repair all garage door brands?

Yes. We repair and service roller doors, sectional doors, tilt doors and motors from all the major brands found on Gold Coast homes.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. Quotes for new doors, motors and replacements are free, and we measure on site so the price is accurate.

Can you fix my door today?

Call us early and we will do our best. Many repairs are completed same day, and urgent jobs like doors stuck open or cars trapped inside are prioritised.

How long does a roller door install take?

Most single and double residential roller doors are removed and replaced in one visit of around three to five hours. Custom sizes and wind-rated doors are made to order, so we book the install once the door arrives.

Can you put a new roller door in an old opening?

Usually, yes. We check the jambs and header for rot or movement first. If the timber is soft we tell you before quoting, so there are no surprises on install day.

Is a roller door or a sectional door better?

Roller doors are cheaper, need less headroom and suit most standard garages. Sectional doors seal better, run quieter and suit wider openings and architectural homes. Our comparison guide goes through it in detail.

Do sectional doors need a lot of ceiling space?

Standard tracks need a few hundred millimetres above the opening, but low-headroom kits bring that down considerably. We measure headroom and sideroom on the first visit and tell you which options fit.

Are insulated sectional doors worth it on the Gold Coast?

If you use the garage as a gym, workshop or rumpus room, or there is a bedroom above it, insulated panels make a noticeable difference to heat and noise. For a garage that only holds a car, a standard panel is usually fine.

Do you repair all garage door brands?

Yes. We repair the brands you see on most Gold Coast homes, including B&D, Gliderol, Steel-Line, Merlin, ATA and Centurion, plus most older and unbranded doors.

Should I keep using my garage door if it is making a noise?

If the noise is new and loud, or the door is moving unevenly, stop using it and call us. Running a door with a broken spring or frayed cable can damage the motor and is a safety risk.

How much does a garage door repair cost?

It depends on the fault. Our pricing page lists typical Gold Coast ranges for common repairs, and we confirm a fixed price on site before starting.

Can you add a motor to my existing garage door?

In most cases, yes. We check the door is in good condition and balanced first. If it needs a re-tension or new parts we include that in the quote so the motor is not overworked.

What happens to an automatic door in a blackout?

Every opener has a manual release so you can open the door by hand. A battery backup unit lets the motor keep running for a number of cycles without mains power, which is useful during Gold Coast storm season.

How often should a garage door be serviced?

Once a year suits most homes. If you are close to the beach or a canal, or the door is used many times a day, every six months helps keep salt corrosion and wear in check.

Can I service my garage door myself?

You can keep tracks clean and clear and test the auto-reverse. Spring and cable adjustment should be left to a technician, because those parts are under high tension.

Can I open the door by hand while I wait?

Only if the door is balanced and nothing is broken. If a spring has snapped or a cable is loose, do not try to lift it. The door can be far heavier than it looks. Call us first and we will talk you through it.

Do you charge more for urgent call-outs?

Urgent and after-hours call-outs can carry an additional fee. We tell you the cost on the phone before we dispatch anyone.

Why should springs be replaced in pairs?

Springs on the same door have done the same number of cycles. If one has broken, the other is close behind. Replacing both together keeps the door balanced and saves a second call-out.

How long do garage door springs last?

Standard springs are commonly rated for around 10,000 cycles. Opening and closing four times a day, that is about seven years. High-cycle springs last longer and suit busy households.

Are tilt doors still worth repairing?

If the panel and frame are sound, new springs and pivots can give a tilt door years of extra life. If the frame is rotting or the panel is warped, replacement is usually better value.

Can I replace a tilt door with a roller door?

Yes. Most tilt door openings take a roller or sectional door. We check the header and side room, then remove the tilt hardware and make good the opening.

Do timber-look doors fade in the Gold Coast sun?

Quality woodgrain finishes are made for Australian UV and hold their colour well. Real timber needs re-coating every year or two to stay looking good, especially on north and west-facing frontages.

Can you clad a garage door to match my house?

Yes, within weight limits. Cladding adds weight, so the door, springs and motor are specified to suit. We confirm what is possible once we know the material.

Do you service strata car park doors?

Yes. We work with building managers and body corporates on car park doors, including programming access remotes and scheduled servicing for high-cycle doors.

Can you work outside trading hours?

For installs and planned maintenance we can schedule around your trading hours where possible, to keep disruption to a minimum.

My remote has stopped working. Is it the battery?

Try a fresh battery first. If that does not help, the remote may have lost its code or the receiver may be faulty. Our Door Doctor tool walks through the common causes.

Can you clear the codes after I buy a house?

Yes, and we recommend it. We clear the motor memory and code your remotes fresh, so only your household has access.

Does my Gold Coast home need a wind-rated garage door?

It depends on your site's design wind classification, which takes in terrain, height and shielding. For new builds the building approval will say. For existing homes we can talk through the risk and options on site.

Can my existing door be upgraded?

Some roller and sectional doors can take wind locks and heavier guides. Others cannot reach a higher rating without replacement. We check the make and model and tell you honestly.
